Started in the morning in the mountain town of Montrose Colorado, overcast and cool. Rode through mountains up through 11,310 foot Monarch Pass, where we were glad we still had the rain liners in our jackets, not for rain but because they block the wind and keep us warmer. By noon when we stopped for lunch in a city park (some unknown town with a big prison at each end) it was over 90 degrees, the mountains were fast becoming a memory, and the lovely winding canyon roads were becoming straight and flat. The afternoon got straighter, each town we passed through listed a lower elevation (we're down to around 3600 now), the temp got over 100 degrees, and the wind picked up to over 20 mph (from the side for those that care, face shields came down on the helmets so Kriss could avoid whiplash and Dan's nose would quit blowing across the side of his face). We stopped short of where we had planned on for the day, and took a room in the town of Lamar Colorado and headed to Pizza Hut for beer.. and pizza. No good beers, the best that could be had was Corona, so it sufficed. We didn't even stop for any pictures, so once again there are none. Tomorrow will be an early start before the death heat, and an earlier stop as we have tourist plans that you can read about tomorrow.
