Bourbon, Bourbon, Bourbon! got the tune? We got an early start to the day, and managed to visit 5 of the 6 distilleries on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. One more tomorrow, then we have earned our free t-shirt! Yes, folks we have ridden over 4000 miles to get a free t-shirt, and we still have to get back home! Pics with captions below. Oh, we also had many samples during the day (don't worry they were very small and spread out over the whole day). Amazingly enough the better tasting were the more expensive, but we both agreed on the favorite of the day as Woodford Reserve.

| Bubbly brew at Woodford Reserve, the only one actually in production today. They mostly are off for the hot summer months for maintenance and because it is too hard to control the temperature of the water. |

| Row after row, after row, stacked to the ceiling with aging bourbon in white oak barrels. The smell in this place was intoxicating (pun intended). The evaporate is referred to as "the angel share", and is payment to the angels for watching over the barrels as they age. Note the rails on the floor, they go clear through the storage room from the still room all the way to the bottling room |

4000 miles for a T-shirt huh? No worse than 400 miles for chapstick or pizza I guess. Love the pics guys! Super cool. LOVE Woodfords Reserve even better. It's my personal fav as well. It's the official Bourbon of the Kentucky Derby dontcha know :-) I would say perhaps Knob Creek for me pulls into second.

chapstick? I think I'm missing a story here. We did not get to sample the Knob Creek after touring Jim Beam, the 2 of the day were Jim Beam Black, and Booker (Kriss points out that the samples were before 11 am ;) Look forward to some Knob Creek some day. Kriss preferred the Booker, I preferred the Black.
DeleteWhen Paul and Bike met,they couldnt come up with a very good reason to go places at the drop of a hat. Pauls' son Kelland, informed Paul that he regularly drove from NAS Lemoore to as far as Visalia CA for no reason. Usually in the process he purchased himself some Chapstick. Paul found this funny, and at the same time GENIUS. Now keep in mind the humor is that Paul doesnt really use a lot of Chapstick, but if it gets him and Bike out on the road, then so much the better. I also recall the 3 Starbucks in Moses Lake simultaneously running out of coffee. Paul and Bike were forced to make the intrepid journey to LeavenWurst, as they were the only place that had any. Of course they also have pizza in LeavenWurst as well. So there you have it. Sometimes, you have to suck it up and hit the road when you can't find your Chapstick.
ReplyDeleteBTW there's a place called Cruisers Pizza in Packwood. they make a darn good pie. Chapstick is available at the Shell station on the corner. The best routing is usually over Chinook and Cayuse passes.
